Objectives:

The goal of the program is to use storytelling as a tool to develop children's expressive abilities and stimulate imagination and creativity with a combination of literary, visual and performing arts activities.  In this program, children will listen and retell, rewrite and illustrate their own versions of stories.  They will showcase their works online and through a live finale event.

Curriculum:

9/14    Anatomy of Stories:
Present:  Team tell and act out stories  
Explore:  What’s in a story?  Elements/Structures/organization
Exercise:  Story immersion: read a bunch of stories, and tell a couple to a partner/to a team
Homeplay: Prepare a 2-3-min personal or family story

10/12    Construction & Delivery
Practice: Tell the 2-3 min personal/family story to a partner
Explore: Physical skills. telling tips & techniques:
•    Voice training
•    Body Work
Homeplay:  Select a folk tale & practice telling

11/9    Integration
Explore: What have we learned: Summary highlights
Analyses:   Story outline, story board, story web
Present:    Tell a 3-5 min fairy tale to the group
Homeplay:  Practice and polish story for showcase

12/7      Finale Showcase
Party time:  Welcome friends and family
Showcase and contest: each child tells 3-5 min fairy tale
Homeplay:  Online showcase & community
