- Before you begin, get control of your breathing.
- Have the exact first words of the story on the tip of your tongue.
- Make sure you can be seen by everyone in your audience.
- Determine your body stance or position before you begin.
- Think ahead of time about how you can use the space in which you are telling the story. Examine all the possibilities.
- If you sit down while telling, stay centered, avoid shifting. Wait before you begin your story.
- Don't begin with "Okay," or any extraneous explanations, excuses or digressions.
- Begin with a strong vocal attack on the first word of the story. If you do this the story will remain at that powerful level, rather than kid of working your way into the story.
- Include all members of your audience.
- Every word is precious. Don't waster words.
- Have fun. A well-prepared story should be a joy to tell. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work.
- Concentrate. Focus your energy and attention on the story. Don't allow yourself to become distracted.
- At the end of the story, hold your position for a few seconds.
